You can give your OPT A# but once you're assigned a permanent visa number, they'll give you a different number. Your OPT A# is just a temporary number.

A number series starting with 1 (eg. for OPT) are temporary. Those starting with 9 are permanent.

I sent money orders for 485. is there a way to track if money orders were cashed by USCIS..the money already left my bank once the money order was issued by my bank

Focus on the core issues (if you care), not on extraneous stuff. For petes sake, it is already approved, seems like most of us are only focussed on our own backs or riding on others.

this journey for me started 5 years ago, at this stage I'll take whatever piece of information, trend or experience I can get to better understand the process.
lets be honest, USCIS have been less than helpful in providing updates and many lawyers are as lost as we are
so I'll take whatever extraneous stuff I can get, not just to understand my case, but to see the trends with other people too

Your profile says you are EB3. I hope it was put by you not by USCIS.
May be your I-140 was also for EB3, a misclassification by you. Do you remember?

In my case, I kept good relationships with other clients of my lawyer. I also became good friends with my lawyer's secretary due to being a customer for over 5 years. Yes, that's unfortunately how long I've waited.
All of them told me the same story. Too many miracles, case got investigated, blacklisted.
Ontopic: any other opinions please? A simple what is involved in the process would be greatly appreciated.

Once you get a receipt notice you could send the correct marriage certificate with a letter explaining the mistake. It will probably lead to a RFE and not a rejection.
Just noticed that my lawyer has attached marriage certificate of my co-worker in the dependendent's petition. I am waiting for the receipt.
What are the impacts of this mistake? To compound the issue, my wife is flying out next week for a month to India.

If you belong to India then it depends on the state of residense. You can go to other consulates if you are a returning H1B, meaning this is not your first H1 stamping. For first time stamps they require one to go the consulate of the region they belong to.

The Hatch widows bill (which removes the requirement that a couple must have been married for two years before a US citizen dies) passed and included in that bill were provisions extending the religious worker green card program and the Conrad 30 J-1 physician waiver program. Each of these programs were extended for three years. The EB-5 regional center program for immigrant investors was permanently reauthorized by the Senate yesterday. The House must agree to these amendments before they go to the President and I do not yet know whether the bill will go back to the House...
