Since your Father in law is a Central Govt Employee, i believe the reason they issued a white 221g is because he may not have provided a NOC (No objection Certificate) from the govt which should state that he is just travelling to US for tourism purposes and not for job related travel. This was how i had to get my father in law to get a NOC inorder to get his stamping done. Once they saw the NOC, they granted the visa.
My 2 cents.
He had the NOC with him and he did mention it to the Visa Officer about the NOC and she mentioned its not required and asked him to email his CV to the email address listed in the white slip for further processing.

Hi sir,
I have some queries regarding my journey. I just wanted to clarify them. Actually I got visa in Sept,2008 and expires on Sept 2011. I am planning to come in Feb,2011.Will I face any issues regarding my visa at the port of entry, because it expires in 8 months. So I am worried regarding that please clarify my query?
If I face any issues over there what will be my next step to proceed?Please suggest me.

AILA has reported that when Rep. Lofgren issued a letter to Secretary Chertoff, she also disclosed that "It has also come to my attention that USCIS began returning visa numbers to the State Depaartment as early as Thrusday, July 5, 2007." It could be the answer to our question why they are holding July filing cases and why they stopped adjudicating 485 cases for which they pull out the numbers before July 2, 2007. What a mess
can any1 interpret wat this means

Do we need to follow any process to convert from H1 to EAD? Or just apply for jobs using EAD?
No. No. No. No. Your spouse can do anything with that EAD. Your spouse can do multiple jobs but once your spouse starts using EAD spouse's H-1 gets void.

Recently I renewed my Advance Parole (AP), USCIS renewed it for 9 months only. Is it possible to check with USCIS to get a 1 year AP.

You must have applied 120 days in advance or many days in advance before old AP expiry. USCIS issues AP from the date it was approved so you tend to lose some months. I have heard some other members include a cover letter which says AP start date should be from date of expiry of old AP. Since you already got the document, I doubt you can do much about it. You may lose 2-3 months just trying send it back and requesting it to be corrected. I guess next time when you renew keep the cover letter in mind.

Your I-94 should be valid as long as your H1B is valid. If you applied for H1B extension they will give you new I94. It should be at the bottom of your 797, please check your H1B approval notice.

Thanks Rune, that helps a lot. I am still wanting to know if anybody else uses this camera in the studio. Maybe this thread could evolve into something that others can post what they use. This is a contract position to work in canada.This is normally through couple of vendors.
My employer is a small consulting company,which don't have own projects.So they pay only when I get project with other consultancies companies and bill through them.
You get work visa in canada then you need to be paid in canada..Work visa in canada has nothing to do with that of US status.
If you are getting paid in usa ( it seems like) and planning on working in canada on visitor visa its not legal. This might be the reason.
Your status in US has nothing to do with Working/Visiting/studying in Canada.
If you have used AP you "Probably" not on H1 any more.. there are some contradicting statements of IV members on this before. But I have seen USCIS sending a notice for one of my friend where in which he was advised to use AP ( as he is considered being on AOS eventhough he has H1) in future.
