It was right after macworld (actually the same day) that i bought my 20" imac, intel version. I still love the machine to death although its time to upgrade my ram to 2gig and revel over the 24" version of my machine. I'm really hoping macworld gives at least more info on the itv with some better features and specs. I don't think it will be released there but here's to hoping.

If I were CES management, I'd ban them for life. Can't imagine Apple will let them anywhere near Moscone.

It's not up to Apple. It's up to IDG. They manage the expo, they administer the expo on behalf of Apple.

yeah, -smp 12 but one core now shows minimal use. Before I restarted it it showed 4 cores with minimal usage... I'm going to try tossing the config file and see what happens. And of course it loses the wu each time I shut folding down.

oh ok. man that stinks. it losing the unit even when pressing control-c?

hmm. i'm not sure. but keep us posted on how it's going

As mentioned, the spawning is terrible. IMO worse than in MW2 (which seemed hard to believe at first)

They shouldn't spawn anywhere near me. I hate spawning near the enemies too and die within 5 seconds of spawning. Personally, I'd rather wait 5-10 seconds for a spawning point to open up instead of dying right away.

Verizon won't have much time to run this commercial. With 3G 850MHz roll-out in full momentum, AT&T will begin to cover more geography quickly.

As for dropped calls, I have dropped calls with all the carriers including Verizon. It is fair to say that AT&T network quality earlier this year did decline substantially as more iPhone's came on the network. In my area, San Francisco, the recent launch of 3G on 850MHz has returned the network to a good quality level. Also, in-building coverage issues for 3G are past.

IMHO, and the way I purchase devices, what I have in my hand is the device that will serve me best. I have tried WinMo, Palm Pre (cheap plastic, a true joke of a device) and Nokia Symbian, Blackberry and Android. The iPhone is the phone I have settled on for the past 2+ years. Pre iPhone, I was always seeking for that once device that met all my needs. I finally have it.

As for you Verizon users, CDMA is a dead end technology that most carriers in the world are abandoning. Look at what's happening up north with Bell and Telus. Over the next couple years, the new phone assortment for Verizon and Sprint will dwindle relative to HSPA. Eventually Verizon will have LTE but they won't have the geographic coverage of their existing network before 2015.

Lots to think about when you choose a network provider or device, huh?

it's a shame the whole "antennagate" fiasco gave the iPhone 4 such a bad rep. I've had mine since launch, and I have had roughly 5 dropped calls. 3 of which happened while I was in a moving vehicle. So it could just as easily be blamed on the network or the place I was driving through at the time.

It seems like whenever someone wants to knock the iPhone they go straight for the antenna non-issue.

I would love to have an Apple display, but I just can't make myselft spend $700 for a 20". I bought a 19" LCD a few months ago for $139. It's also got a 3 year warranty.

    <snip>

The database at Apple was 'crowd sourced' and you opted in to that when you clicked on 'Accept' in the SLA, but that was a twice-per-day, anonymous, encrypted data packet sent back to HQ.

    </snip>

Not quite. The data collection dialog was separate from the EULA agreement and was a voluntary opt-in. Whether you chose to opt-in or not did not affect how your device operated.

Personally, I opted-in. I have no problem helping Apple to maintain their location database.

How you gonna burn it to DVD if it's Hi-Def?

    Perhaps they'll include HD-DVD burners in the new MBP's. :) Hey, I can dream can't I? :D

    I can't? Darn.

Pretty funny. One question though: obviously "there's a map for that" is a play-on-words for "there's an app for that." Isn't "there's an app for that" an Apple advertisement? Why take a shot at Apple with a similar phrase when Apple has nothing to do with AT&T's network? It's a clever line in the sense that it mocks another but it seems to miss the target.

I have lived in 4 different rural markets and regularly travel between them. Currently, in NC, Verizon is everywhere since they bought out a couple providers like Rural Cellular and I forget the other one.

When I left Verizon, they had full bar 3G coverage at my house. They had just upgraded about 3 months before I went with an iPhone. With AT&T, I need to drive almost 20 miles to even find 3G coverage.

With Verizon, I had a Palm Treo 700 and it was very rare to see even the analog signal at all.

If Apple would make the iPhone for Verizon, i'd switch back in a blink, even if I had to pay early termination, it's that bad. I typically lose between 20-40% of my calls. There is several dead zones too, that I can't even drive down without losing it.

Still can't agree with ya on the cd thing for one reason, I went to a movie theatre this past weekend. I may be showing my age, but i can remember when the hue and cry was that the availibity of movies on VHS was going to put the theatres out of business, but it didn't. There are always going to be those who want the latest and greatest right now, without having to wait, and these people are willing to pay a premium. Some type of physical media will allow them to do that.

This is false advertising, Verizon does not have that 3G coverage and ATT has more than that. Verizon is the worst service I have ever used with the worst Phones I have ever used, MY iPhone works in more places than my Verizon phone ever did, this is all lies and Congress should talk about that not exclusive carrier models!!

It would be useful if they you reached a certain amount of upvotes you can get into the marketplace too. That'll help with actual contributing users that don't post much. The current system provokes people to just post quick short responses to raise their post count.

I agree that there should be something to come from the votes...However I can't agree that the current system provokes short quick responses. No matter how many posts you have you can't view Marketplace until you have been here 6 months. I rarely post here, but I have gone way over the minimum number of posts, and I still have another month to wait.

Ridiculous? I defy you to name one thing (http://arstechnica.com/apple/reviews/2003/04/finder.ars) that Apple has fixed in the single-worst, most user-hostile app ever written for the Mac!

Is Finder an App per se or integral to the OS?

Nike+ armband is actually discounted by $11, not $5 as stated on page 1. this brings the price down to $18 (or $19.26 after [7%] sales tax).

So Saunders then what you're saying is that to believe in god you can't swear? He's not sending mixed messages because his songs aren't saying ******* god.

And just so you know, compared to any other big rappers right now, Kanye doesn't swear at all. He has the cleanest lyrics of any of the current big rappers because he isn't gangsta rap.

    http://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/12/13/4g-verizon-iphone-to-debut-after-christmas/)

MacDailyNews reports (http://www.macdailynews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/exclusive_verizons_iphone_rumored_to_be_lte_device_coming_right_after_xmas/) that it has received information from a "source that we believe to be credible" regarding management training for the Verizon iPhone offered by the company last week. According to the report, the Verizon iPhone will launch immediately after Christmas and is in fact an LTE 4G device.- The new iPhone is an LTE device and that fact - the only "LTE iPhone," exclusive to Verizon - will be the main marketing theme; i.e. "For the new '4G' (cough) verizon network" that Verizon has already started promoting
    - As rollout of LTE not actually widepsread, Verizon iPhone will have multi-band chip backward compatibility with regular CDMAThe report also claims that the Verizon iPhone is already shipping to Verizon warehouses, and the carrier will maintain control over all stock until launch in order to control information leaks.

Finally, the source indicates that the iPhone 5 was intended to be LTE-only at its debut next summer, but Steve Jobs and Apple are upset that the carriers are not building out their LTE infrastructure quickly enough to make that happen.

Verizon's 4G network launched last week (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/12/01/verizons-4g-network-to-launch-next-week-no-handsets-until-mid-2011/) for mobile broadband customers, but the carrier noted that it does not expect to debut 4G-capable handsets until the middle of next year.

MacDailyNews is not a frequent source of rumors, and has a mixed record on the information it has published in the past. In addition, we are skeptical that Apple had ever seriously planned for the fifth-generation iPhone 5 to be "LTE-only", given that even the most aggressive LTE build-out schedules from the carriers have long planned for it to be several years before their entire networks are upgraded to the standard. In fact, other sources (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/10/11/mid-2011-iphone-to-utilize-dual-mode-gsm-cdma-chip-skip-4g/) have indicated that the fifth-generation iPhone won't support LTE at all, a move which would follow Apple's precedent with not supporting 3G in the original iPhone as it waited for greater availability and more advanced technology for utilizing the standard.

Consequently, we are publishing this rumor on Page 2 for interest and discussion.

So I'm told, but A) 3G phones are backwards compatible with old GSM networks. Mine switches between 3G/regular GSM constantly when I'm at home, as I live very close to a base station but far from the nearest 3G mast. Hence they should just stick a 3G 'sleeper cell' in there for (near) future use... and B) I respect that Apple is an American company, but they peddle their stuff all across the globe. Every little itty bitty iPod has 21 languages built in. When Apple Store closes down for maintenance it happens simultaneously all across the globe, and when it pops back online again the new products are available in all countries. Never in Apple's history have I seen them do something as US-centric as this - heck, we're not getting it until 2008! Strange, pretty damn alienating, and it had better not become a habit.
PART of the delay in the release of the phone in the US market is due to FCC (federal commumcations commission) registration and regulations. I would imagine that there are similar agencies in other countries that have oversight on new devices that utilizes this type of communication. In the case of the iPhone, Apple may not have cleared all of the regulatory red tape in other countries to launch simultaneously. On top of that there are carrier negotiations. Do the carriers have the technolgy to support the features of the phone? Do they have the support capability that apple is looking for in terms of customer service etc. If you have a problem with a cell phone that you have under contract with Cingular, who are you going to call first, Cingular or Moto?

This is a whole different ballgame when it comes to the regulatory front. That is my guess as to why there will be delays.

And for all of you who are outside of the US there is a silver lining to this for you. By the time you do get the phone, it will most likely be second gen and will most likely be touting the most popular features for your region of the world (a la 3G type stuff)
